"The Jimmer"

You know you have arrived in life when you have the word "the" put in front of your name. The other day I was watching ESPN Sports Center, and they had a segment devoted to "The Jimmer." Two thoughts there, 1) BYU Basketball... wassssup!!!, 2) while I know he's a great basketball player, there has to be something that sets him apart. So I had to investigate.

The more I know about The Jimmer, the more I respect him. First of all, this guy is from a small town in my mission in upstate NY... so let me send a shout out to NYUM baby! Second, I am amazed at how hard work, God-given skill, and inspiration can all play such a huge role in someone's future. Jimmer is redefining the game of basketball because he developed a skill to shoot at such a far range (and all areas within) that it has become nearly impossible to guard against him. Way to look "outside the 3-point line" so-to-speak. Not only that, but the HOURS of hard work that it has taken for him to reach this level of skill is impressive. In a day where undeserved entitlement runs rampant with the younger generation, it is impressive to see someone walk the walk... not just talk the talk.

I sat with several friends during the New Mexico game, who had such a negative outlook at the conclusion of the game. But all giants need to fall, in order to have the incentive to keep pushing boundaries. If all you ever did was excel without passion or cause, so much would be lost. The Jimmer excels at pressure situations, but when the nation is at your heels, and every team that plays you is looking to supply you're personal downfall, it is bound to happen once or twice. Some people crumble at set backs, others take it as a reason to work harder, and that's our Jimmer for ya.

Playing at BYU (the supposed Duke of the West) and facing the jeering and downright nasty fans has been good training for him, he has the ability to find the inner drive to push through... that's what makes a champion, regardless of the scoreboard. So fair-weather fans, just know you haven't seen the last of Jimmer Fredette... he, in my opinion, not only deserves the "the" but also, "NCAA National Champion" in there as well. Am I premature in this statement?... some might say yes... but I have a twinkle in my eye as I say "we'll just have to see." :)

Scott has a crush on Jimme, so I thing he would agree with you too.

I haven't investigated Jimmer like you two, but based on the highlights Scott has shown me, he's something else. So watch out world!
