I was talking to a friend Brian (yes, he wants the credit) the other day about relationships. These days relationships are too complicated for me to figure out. My friend and I both agree that when you get a bit older and have your baggage, committing to a "totally-yes" or "totally-no"... in or out approach to dating is a sure fire way to freak out. We came up with the "Rent-to-Own" relationship strategy. Here are some of the bylaws of the policy:
- You only give what you can afford (and in the beginning it might not be that much) like if you are still in an apprentice position, you can't afford much... but as you get promoted at work you could invest more, and potentially purchase/own the item.
- The item could be repossessed at any time, if you 1) fail to make payments, or 2) if you try to change the terms and conditions without consulting the company.
- Perks- You have a full month of enjoyment, you figure out if you want to keep the item at the end of one fun month of no money collectors.
I'm a fan... and it makes me a little less nervous in the end. It also allows you to really marinate in the process of making the oh-so-important decision of which TV should you own... and to really have hands-on researching, to ensure that you are a happy, satisfied customer.
